Spring Newsletter 2011

With the 2011 breeding season well under way, foals being born, and mares preparing to go to stud again I thought it time to take a moment and reflect on the past 6 months ‘down on the farm’ at Rheinwood Pastoral Co and the thoroughbred industry as a whole.

Chances are if you breed to sell horses there is a 99.9% chance you are making less money at present than you were three years ago. The yearling sales were an extremely hard market this year with lack of buyer confidence due to the global financial crisis not to mention the political landscape in Australia.

Regardless of this downturn Rheinwood Pastoral Co managed a good overall sale and most importantly our yearlings found great homes with some extremely good trainers. They will be given every chance to make it on the track and we look forward to watching their progress!

The sales companies have inspected our horses for the 2012 sales and we will be marketing yearlings by boom stallions Fastnet Rock (3), Testa Rossa, Magic Albert, Tale of the Cat and Encosta De Lago. We are also looking forward to showcasing our exciting 1st season sire progeny by Northern Meteor (5), Golden Slipper winner Sebring (2), and New Approach who was an exceptional racehorse.

The foals hitting the ground this season are by outstanding sires Flying Spur, Magic Albert, Northern Meteor, Tale of The Cat, Exceed and Excel, Testa Rossa, Nicconi and Wanted. We look forward to watching them grow and develop.

Our mares are this season visiting Magic Albert, Hinchinbrook, Star Witness, Exceed & Excel, Not A Single Doubt, Starspanglebanner, Sebring and Stratum. Getting mares in foal involves a great deal of hard work and planning. Our exceptional staff are the best in the business and are up to the task ahead of them!

There has never been a better time to race a horse…

Purchase prices are at a record low and it is expected that prize money will be increasing in the New Year. There are some very exciting changes on the horizon. There is no better feeling than watching your horse race and seeing it pass the post in first place!
