Ray's Roll

Ray Willis’s Rheinwood Pastoral Co had a Melbourne Cup week to remember as the Southern Highlands farm provided three city winners, culminating with Albert The Fat’s thrilling victory in the group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) at Flemington.

Throw in a Randwick double on Cup day with the David Hayes-trained Unchain My Heart and the Scott Singleton prepared Dark Brown Sugar and it indicates Willis has a winning formula for preparing him young horses for the yearling sales.

Rheinwood also had a winner in South Africa on Sunday. Rivatorio (Oratorio x River Woman) won over 1000m. Willis sold the filly as a weanling for just $26,000 at the 2009 Magic Millions sales.

All of the above winners were bred or raised at Rheinwood at Mittagong and the stud is already anticipating a great Magic Millions sale on the Gold Coast in January.

Rheinwood will be marketing the full-brother to Albert The Fat (Magic Albert x Alemar) along with three other Northern Meteors and one each by Coolmore stallions Fastnet Rock and Tale Of The Cat.

Albert The Fat sold for $40,000 as a yearling at the 2006 sales and became a member of the millionaire’s club in winning the Emirates Stakes at Flemington. The seven-year-old’s earnings stand at $1,260,275 from 11 wins and 6 places from his 31 starts.
