First Foal for Northern Meteor |
|
Widden Studs Northern Meteor was the busiest first season sire last spring covering 198 mares and one of his first babies to arrive is this filly sent in by Ray and Mariliyn Willis of Rheinwood Pastoral on the Southern Highlands.
Foaled at 2.15 am in early hours of August 5, she is the third living foal of well bred Perugino (USA) mare Comedy Club, a half-sister to stakes-winner Bleveeka from the family of Group One MRC Blue Diamond winner Reward for Effort.
Shes a really nice foal and we are so happy with her, said Ray Willis.
The mare had an absolutely cracking foal last year by General Nediym, but unfortunately it had an accident during a storm and broke its leg, so had to be put down.
Comedy Club has had one foal to the races in Club Ha Ha, who won at Seymour earlier this year and has an unnamed two year-old filly by Ferocity.
Were sending Comedy Club back to Widden Stud again to go to Nicconi as she needs a big strong powerful horse and he fits the bill, Willis added.
Rheinwood have enjoyed recent success with another young Widden stallion in Stratum, who is the sire of the Rheinwood bred three year-old Gig Guide (x Whirligig), who won easily at Geelong on Friday for the Mark Kavanagh stable.
He looks a very smart horse and should be unbeaten as at his first start he hit the running rail and all but fell, Willis revealed.
A Group One winning son of Encosta de Lago, Northern Meteor (pictured) is one of three young Widden sires whose first foals are arriving this spring joining Golden Slipper winner Sebring and Champion US Juvenile War Pass (USA), so stay tuned for more foaling action from this trio of stars. |
