Show A Heart Colt Wins Karrakatta
Tara Madgwick – Sunday, 1 April 2012
Craig Thompson’s Mt Hallowell Stud enjoyed a memorable weekend with stakes-winners on both sides of the country following the success of Hallowell Belle in the Listed ATC Darby Munro Quality and Luke’s Luck in the Group II WATC Karrakatta Plate.
A two year-old colt by Show a Heart, the Trevor Andrews trained Luke’s Luck (pictured www.perthracing.com.au )was ridden back in the field from a wide gate and finished with a wet sail to overhaul the leaders and win WA’s premier juvenile event by a long neck.
His trainer Trevor Andrews was delighted with the win and believes there are many more in store.
“I’m so happy, the extra 100m of today’s race was always going to suit him and we just needed a bit of luck from the barrier,” Andrews said. “We gave him a good chance because they always go quick in the Karrakatta and he has a nice finish on him.” Andrews was delighted for winning rider Shaun McGruddy and owner Craig Thompson.
“I have really been pushing Shaun’s case to Craig and he’s listened to me but he’ll definitely never question me again now,” he said.
“Our industry http://premier-pharmacy.com/product-category/mans-health// needs more people like Craig, I spent nearly three-quarters of a million on horses for him at the recent sales so it’s great to see him get something back.”
Andrews indicated Luke’s Luck is likely to continue on to the Sires Produce Stakes where he is likely to start a short-priced favourite.
Luke’s Luck was a $150,000 purchase for Mt Hallowell Stud from the Rheinwood Pastoral draft at the 2011 Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast and is the first foal of talented metropolitan winning Redoute’s Choice mare Red Queen, a half-sister to Group II winner She Will Be Loved.
A full sister to Luke’s Luck made $180,000 at the 2012 NZB Premier Yearling Sale for Rich Hill Stud where she was bought by Greg Eurell.
Luke’s Luck is the 16th stakes-winner for champion Queensland sire Show a Heart (pictured), who stands at Glenlogan Park Stud and has two entries for the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale that are closely related.
Both are bred by Gooree Stud and offered by Widden Stud – Lot 261, a colt from stakes-winner Magsaya and Lot 508, the half-brother to Magsaya from stakes-placed Priceless Joy.
